What I liked:
“The rooms were very unique and nice and the beds were very comfortable. The upstairs breakfast area was delightful and the views were impressive. It is a bit far from the center of Cape Town but it is close to False Bay which has a nice beach area and is a nice walk from the hotel.”
What the hotel could do better:
“The lady that owns the hotel seemed nice upon first meeting. However, she tries to control travel to and from the hotel as well as your itineraries during your stay. We assumed that this was because she gets a commission from the taxi and tour services she uses, which she actually confirmed to us the day we left. At first, we were only getting picked up in luxury cars like Mercedes and Range Rovers - when we told her we didn't mind a regular taxi service that was cheaper we then started getting off-road trucks and other jeeps (We assumed it was fine as long as it was cheap). At the end of our stay, it turns out that the truck was even more expensive than the Range Rover - because apparently the driver was an ex-Ambassador that was highly knowledgeable on the area (No, we weren't aware of this - so were surprised at the extremely high bill at the end)
She would even go so far as to say my choices for what I wanted to do in Cape Town were ridiculous (Why would you want to go to Robben Island? You want to see a prison?!) and instead set us up for a tourist trap city tour which included stops at various retail outlets.
All in all, rooms are nice for the price but keep in mind that it is about 40 minutes from the city (not 15 minutes as indicated by website) and the owner will try her hardest to squeeze additional revenue from you any possible way. Our bill was double what we expected due to transportation fees organized by her.”
