What I liked:
“The rooms were amazing, the views spectacular and the hotel a peaceful oasis with all that we needed for a relaxing weekend break. We found it difficult to leave. It was a very special, memorable place to celebrate my 40th birthday and have a romantic getaway.
The spa, steam and pool areas.
Breakfast on the terrance was wonderful; in general the staff were eager to help.”
What the hotel could do better:
“The restuarant design was a disappointment. I didn't fit with the overall Asain design theme of the hotel nor the high quality dining experience that was expected from the menu and prices. The ambiance day or night felt cavernous and cold and the furnishings reminded me of any Hilton, Hyatt or Sheraton chain hotel I often stay in for business.
Given there was not a concierge on duty, the staff tried to be helpful but should be more informed about local restaurants, etc.
The equipment in the fitness room is outdated and could be upgraded to better quality for those who chose to continue their fitness routine while on holiday.
The htoel website doesn't do the hotel justice.”

What I liked:
“The hotel charmed us from the get go. Its location was particularly curious, for we climbed up for at least 15 minutes before we got to the very narrow alley among tall pine trees that led us to the entrance. The place itself was serene, beautiful and away from the extremely touristic hullabaloo of the hotel district of Funchal (Estrada Monumental). Plus the room had an excellent view of Funchal, a lovely terrace with chaise lounges to enjoy Nespresso coffee and the most comfortable hotel bed I had the pleasure of sleeping in, in years. The service was excellent; we wanted to extend our stay and the management was extremely helpful and generous. We were truly sad to leave the place.”
What the hotel could do better:
“Wouldn't call it a dislike but it would perhaps be better if the rooms had wi-fi service. However there's free internet in the library so maybe it makes sense to stay away from the immediate work e-mails that pop up every minute if you're there to relax.”
