    What I liked:

“Hotel Puerta America is without doubt the most uber cool place the Spanish capital has to offer. I felt as if I had been transported into another dimension. This ambitious project has no equal.

Friendly French staff further made my stay enjoyable.”

What the hotel could do better:

“Slight off the beaten track and someone could be put of by the passing traffic”

    What I liked:

“Two or three floors are very well designed, or at least look impressive.”

What the hotel could do better:

“The quality of finish is deplorable. The spa was unable to cope with 2 massages at the same time. The bar was manned by two uninterested barmen with zero personality and no sense of service. Overall a truly awful hotel. Oh, and a lousy recommendation for dinner. Location also shocking.”

    What I liked:

“The hotel itself was spectacular and a truly unique experience. The rooms, the view and the concept were even better in person than advertised.”

What the hotel could do better:

“The service in this hotel suffers from over-promising and nearly ruined our experience. We only spent one night in the hotel while passing through Madrid and had the following occur:

    (1) when leaving to go into the city (this hotel is far from the city center, about halfway to Barajas airport), we were told finding a taxi would not be a problem. After waiting nearly 30 minutes, a taxi finally arrived and the meter already had 10 (Euro) on it. When I asked the driver to start the meter for a new fare, it turns out the hotel had to call the taxi (who came from the center of the city) and we had to pay the additional fare.

    (2) we had the hotel book a dinner reservation, which we were told could be and was accomplished with no trouble. When we arrived, however, the restaurant had our names, but only to sit in the bar area (which only offered a different, limited bar menu). In order to sit in the restaurant, we ended up waiting nearly an hour for a table to open.

    (3) the worst of all was in our departure, when we asked whether there was a petrol station between the hotel and the airport in which to fill up our hired car before returning it. Given that many places are closed on Sunday mornings in Spain, this was an extremely important question. We received a general statement that there were numerous locations on the highway to the airport and that we should not worry, as it would not be a problem. After driving to the airport and realizing there was not a single petrol station off of the highway, we tried for an hour to find a station in one of the nearby towns (even calling the hotel to ask for assistance and receiving none). In order to make our flight, we ended up having to return the car nearly empty an pay a huge surcharge.

The practical result of our stay was a wonderfully-designed hotel, where the service was actually worse than non-existant, as they added expenses and frustration that we would otherwise not have had to deal with.”

    What I liked:

“Great hotel, each floor's interior is designed by a different artist and you get to pick which one suits your taste when space is available. The restaurant is trendy and packed with locals on Sundays, the lobby bar is really chic as well. If you're in the party mood there is also an open-air nightclub on the roof. (Which by the way, we only figured out when being driven back and noticing the lights and people on the roof from a distance). The hotel is a 5 minute walk to a subway station, the system though can be confusing if you need to change trains; if you prefer taxis wait outside to chauffeur you.”

What the hotel could do better:

    “Nothing; Had a wonderful stay!”
