What I liked:
“We originally booked into Esencia for eight nights but the hotel contacted us a few months before our stay to tell us that a wedding party had booked out the whole hotel for three nights of our stay except our room and offered to put us up in the Maroma Hotel for the same rate for the first four nights of our stay. We were delighted with this and they made the process and transfer very simple for us.
We particularly liked the rooms which were spacious and comfortable. The mini bar with complimentary water and drinks - which was refreshed each day - was a very welcome addition.
The quality of food and the restaurant was superb
The spa was exceptional”
What the hotel could do better:
“The plunge pool in our room and both swimming pools are in need of maintenance. The paint on the pool walls was peeling and didn't look very appealing.
The hotel is quite small and had very few guests during the time that we were there. This meant that when we went for lunch or dinner we might be the only ones there. This was quite pleasant at times however at other times it felt like we were inconveniencing the staff when they wanted to go home. Considering the price of the room rates we were paying, if the restaurant is open until 11pm and we don't arrive for dinner until 10pm, I think its unacceptable for a guest to be made to feel that we were putting the staff out.
Coffee and pastries were delivered to the room each morning as a complimentary service. This was essentially a waste of time as every morning the birds or small animals in the area got to the food first and on a couple of mornings made enough noise to disturb us from our sleep. However it has been a year since we stayed there so it's likely the hotel have done something to address this.”

“everything about esencia was amazing. boutique hotel, peaceful & quiet experience away from hustle of playa del carmen (it's on an isolated beach 20 mn away). amazing service, beautiuful grounds, unbelievable spa.”

“Nothing; Had a wonderful stay!”
