    What I liked:

“The location, view, and service at the hotel were absolutely top notch. The breakfast served each day was delicious, as was the room service dinner we ordered. they really go out of their way to make the trip special.”

What the hotel could do better:

“Lots of trouble with internet service (though we weren't supposed to be on the internet anyway!!). Skip web surfing and enjoy the island!”

    What I liked:

“The view was absolutely amazing! The breakfast was yummy. The service was great and the hotel was secluded and quiet.”

What the hotel could do better:

“The stairs from the road to the hotel were severe - not recommended for people who struggle walking! The toilet and shower were in a tiny room and the water went everywhere - while a huge spa and sink took up half the main room. The spa was lovely - with stars above... just not at the expense of a proper bathroom. Internet access was rubbish!”

    What I liked:

“The service was incredibly personal and friendly in this family-run boutique hotel. They helped with everything from car hire to places to visit, to restaurant recommendations etc. Being served breakfast on your own private terrace each morning was a lovely touch, as was the welcome champagne and fruit platter on our first night. The food was also great, with huge portions!!

The unobstructed view out over the caldera from both the rooms and the pool area is unbeatable. I was a little apprehensive at first about being so far away from the main towns but actually this offered a better view and more privacy than you'd have got anywhere nearer.

The rooms were beautifully appointed and a very pleasant surprise for someone who was used to the usual Greek basic accommodation style.”

What the hotel could do better:

“My biggest bugbear was that I do not expect to pay those kinds of prices for a room where you have to shower over the toilet. I appreciate it's because you can't use soap and other products in the spa baths in the rooms, but still that was a major design flaw.

I really didn't feel like this place was good value for money, for what it was. It felt like you were paying for a few cool gimmicks (windows that blackout at the touch of a switch, swarovski crystals above the spa bath) but missing other fundamental things (a decent shower!!).”

  5. gcruz

    What I liked:

“Exclusive, quiet, serene, peaceful, Astarte Suites was superb. The chef was excellent, and ordering a delicious gourmet meal in your private suite overlooking the Caldera was better than trekking into town for your normal dining experience. The infinity pool has huge bean-bags that cradle your body and you can dangle your feet right over the edge with an unobscured view of Fira, the Caldera and watch the cruise ships and sailboats slowly drifting by.”

What the hotel could do better:

    “Nothing.”
