What I liked:
“Even though we felt a little like we were staying at an Ikea, the Opus provides a nice upscale environment for the traveler who wants something out-of-the-ordinary.
Service was great, aside from one incredibly unpleasant woman at the front desk the day we checked out. But the real point of excellence was the door staff. At first they would seem a little reserved, but once you got them to let their guard down they were all really awesome. They gave us rides around town, hooked us up with ideas for entertainment, and were a real pleasure to deal with.
In fact, all of the staff were really professional, helpful, and friendly.
The location is also very central, and we rarely needed a car to go anywhere. Everything was within walking distance, and when it wasn't the door staff would either offer to drive us, we grabbed a short cab ride, or walked to the nearby SkyTrain station.”
What the hotel could do better:
“The construction outside the hotel is incredibly disruptive, and warrants a serious price-break (which I didn't get). The heavy equipment started up every morning at 8am. The Opus management knows it too, because there were Opus branded earplugs on the nightstand. If you're like me and you get stuck with one of the rooms that face the construction, good luck to you.
Yaletown has really turned into quite the douche-a-teria. The scenery and people-watching was pretty entertaining, but after we were confronted by the fiftieth man-purse guy who just parked his Cayenne at the Opus, it started to get old. I actually overheard a guy at the Opus bar say "people don't realize how hard it is to have a trust fund". On Friday and Saturday night, the lobby turns into a 3am dance party, which would've been cool if the people weren't so tacky. Again, entertaining... but only up to a point.
Fans of the Mondrian and the Standard will love the Opus. Similar vibe.”

What I liked:
“Nice interior design, friendly (and attractive) valet staff, homely well appointed rooms with everything you need. The Davey Street location is perfect to explore the many local ethnic restaurants, cycle around the Sea Wall / Stanley Park and downtown shopping.”
What the hotel could do better:
“This hotel is grossly overpriced for what you get. Rooms were too small and cluttered with useless stuff like extra pillows and oxygen aerosoles. Rooms are small for 2 people (we had a 'superior' room). The restaurant struggled during busy morning periods, and although the staff were friendly and attentive, you could tell they were overstretched. Housekeeping were reluctant to provide extra complimentary bottled water when asked and were generally unfriendly.”
